Worlds Best Drives A8 / A10 France to Italy
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
This is the road that goes from the Cote D'Azur to The Italian Riviera. This part of the Mediterranean coast is where the Alps meet the sea. To create a motorway that runs through this region required one of the greatest engineering feats known. Starting at Cannes (famous for it's annual film festival), the road slowly rises uphill to gain the altitude required. Once the height has been reached (around about Monaco) the motorway then zooms through the Alps, across massive viaducts that soar hundreds of feet above the valleys below, and when a mountain gets in the way, a hole has been drilled straight through it. This makes for one of the most spectacular drives anywhere in the world. Although it is not always obvious on this movie, the road never strays more than a kilometer from the sea. For those of you interested, the physical distance covered in this movie is around 100 miles, or 160 Km. The average speed observed is therefore around 400 mph / 640 kph. The date this recording was made is March 2011

fantastic music!

Will this road be terrible in the summer? (August). I would love to go this route but don't want awful traffic that I heard about here.
-
WOW., i wonder how much all those tunnels cost to build.
-
Going on this road in late may! :D
-
I was talking about bicycle. Thanks!
-
If you mean motorbikes, yeah, great trip for a bike. If you mean bicycle, the road is an Autoroute / Autostrada, and I don't think bicycles are permitted on those roads.
-
Is it allowed to use bike on this road? Thanks

Beautiful vidéo. My favorite hyghway in France, mainly the part around la turbie.

You must use the same program that I do. I bet it's called Corel VideoStudio Pro X5. Good Job!

Haha, yes Mr Pierrestam, I think that's what is called 'cutting you up because they nearly missed their turning'. However, the video is quite speeded up, so it probably looks worse than it was. I don't remember being particularly shocked by it. And anyway, I was driving quite slowly compared to a Porsche, so he/she probably reckoned I deserved it :)

@ jmaico There are 2 tracks, both by the same artist. First one Souvenirs, by Voyage (1978?) and the second is called From East To West, by Voyage (1978?). You can find them both on You Tube :)

Thank you for making this video, I did the route in 2008, I drove the Mercedes A-Class and I must say that this is the nicest way ever traveled, I left Milan and went to Cannes and back,

I don't ushally like speeded up videos, but yours I like, must be the music! Thanks for sharing.

@ggharek Yes - I am very sure. I am driving a big RV / or motorhome as we call it here. The speed limit is much faster than I was going, but my vehicle is not exactly a stable speed monster - and have you seen those drops :-0

@SonicSouvenir Are you sure its 90-100 kph? Or do you mean 90-100mph? If I recall correctly, the speed limit on their motorways is 130 km/h for automobiles.
