great I like your experiments

A great help , thank you for posting !

Many thanks. You've fed a few of my remaining brain cells :-)

Yes, indeed. The motion of fronts in the real atmosphere is complicated and effects which are not included in this simple experiment come into play, including earth's rotation/Coriolis effect, and many other factors. This sort of complexity makes forecasting the weather interesting and challenging.

Thanks ever so much for the swift response. Yes of course, left to right depends on which way you view things. Lol So does the actual direction it travels depend on anything like earth's rotation, Coriolis effect etc? Thanks again.

Hi tafftastic. "Left" and "Right" depend on your point of view, so that would depend where you were relative to the front. The hot air (or water) is lighter than the cold. So the hot air (or water) overruns the cold and the cold undercuts the hot. In a tank experiment like this, that results in the left-right movements that you describe. Hope that helps.

What dictates which direction the flows move? In the video the hot air moved from left to right, the cold from right to left. Do the hot and cold streams always move in the same direction as in the video? Thanks.
