Vintage cars rally in the Southern Alps
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
Bob Scott and fellow farming friends decided to take their vintage cars for a drive. Except this was no ordinary drive it was a 530 km journey return from Sheffield to the remote Muzzle Station west of Kaikoura via an overnight camp at the Branch Hutt, all the while fording rivers and driving on roads that are usually the domain of the 4WD. Seven vintage cars, the oldest a 1924 Dodge, 12 men and a Hilux as a support car set out to do the trip, all seven made it back home. With only minor breakdowns on the way that were fixed by the good old Kiwi Number 8 wire mentality. A remarkable trip with breathtaking South Island scenery we follow these 80 year old cars through the mountains.

not bad to be the second owner of a 90 year old piece of history that still looks great.

My father, who is no longer a member of the Timaru Chapter of the Vintage Car Club, Still has his 1925 FIAT 501 Special, he is the Second Owner Since New, As original Owner Donated it to the Geraldine Vintage Car Museum, and then the Museum Burnt Down, Dad bought the Burnt Out Wreck, Dad and Myself along with other family members, Fully Restored it, Wooden Framing, Hand Panel Beaten, Took 18 Months to Fully Restore, He Still has it, in the Shed, only Mum can Drive it, If at all. this was all 30+ years ago, but i still remember doing the easter egg hunts and the Mount Cook Rally, those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end, huess they haven't yet. much love, mark
