Bernard Haitink conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in Strauss's An Alpine Symphony Eine Alpensinfonie - Op. 64, is a tone poem by German composer Richard Strauss in 1915 "......Strauss's Alpine Symphony: a dawn to dusk Alpine ascent. From the spine-chilling opening evoking the hours before dawn and the richness of sunrise, through to the euphoria of the summit and the drama of the mountain tempest, this is Strauss at his most colourful" - Source Wales site (BBC) Richard Strauss An Alpine Symphony Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Bernard Haitink conductor BBC PROMS 2012 London - Royal Albert Hall

I like Strauss because his works highlight my favorite instrument, the french horn.

Hsitink has been my favorite conductor for many years. And this is my favorite of Strauss's tone poems. So this performance is a great treat. Thanks for posting it.

MARAVILLOSA VERSION

"Eine Alpensinfonie" (1915) can be seen as maybe the last great symphonic work belonging to the german/austrian tradition started with Haydn. Strauss dedicated himself to the Opera in the second part of his life..I think this is it: here's the outro soundtrack of the most important branch in the history of classical music. We could also expand this line to the "Lyric symphony" (1922) by Zemlinsky

uno dei poemi sinfonici più belli.

The intro is sooo amazing.
-
prefer sinopoli with the staatskapelle Dresden. Strauss at its best

Oh dear, what a wonderful cinematic work! Those distant horns (at 7:11) are truly thrilling. And maestro Haitink managed to create an innovative performance, indeed. My favourite recording: Sao Paolo Symphony Orchestra, Frank Shipway, BIS Records (5-channel surround SACD) http://bis.se/conductors/shipway-frank/strauss-eine-alpensinfonie

-
mi alma musical, sin el texto no aprecia la descripción de la sinfonía,pero es muy bonita y atrallente, pero no como las sinfonías 1812 y la Batalla de Welington

trumpet 1ª having a bad day
-
25:26 that sounds suspiciously similar to Max Bruch's violin concerto
-
why is the Tuba on the left side??

I keep coming back to this. One of my favourite symphonies. What an amazing lyrical journey! So many little nouances and details, big swells. The part with the "Storm" what an incredible build to a terrifying theme!
