Up Close With The Ultra-Thin Piaget Altiplano Chronograph

The chronograph is a decidedly difficult complication to produce – that much we know. After all, up until about 15 years ago there were less than a handful of manually wound chronographs in existence. Another great tenet of watchmaking is that of the ultra-thin movement, a specialty practically owned these days but nobody but Piaget. It was last December that we caught a glimpse of a truly extraordinary timepiece – the Piaget Alitplano Chronograph – a manually wound, in-house chronograph with fly-back mechanism and GMT function that was only 8.24 mm thick. As of today, this incredible watch is in stores, and we thought it was worth revisiting this incredible piece by allowing Philippe Leopold-Metzger, Piaget's global CEO, to explain it to you. Stunning. I would love to own something like this. Does anyone know something that resembles this that is affordable...perhaps something under £2000...not a Nomos Glashütte - not a fan.

I love this company and am so glad you frequently highlight them.

classy and expensive

Alas..I heard they have to get the reliability up though. These are delicate pieces.

Awesome vid keep em coming!!

The finish on the case looks second rate and the metal milky.

Nice movt. Not big fan of Piaget though.....

Piaget doesn't do it for me but that dial is pretty clean. Nice, clean dress chrono.

1:58 That is very true. Had you blotted out the word Piaget on the dial and replaced it with Skagen I would have believed it for sure.

Simply beautiful !

Those are some beautiful watches.

Sometimes I wonder if you wouldn't be able to just break the watch in two?

Beautiful. Stunning. Love the ultra thin nature profile.

Super to see Piaget back to leading the ultrathin game.

Too bad the face is awful.

Really interesting video. I'm astounded how much Piaget has managed to fit into such a thin movement. Column wheel and flyback!

Jeebus. I can only imagine how much this thing costs....
