The Shrinking Alps - Europe
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
May 2007 After one of the warmest winters on record, the future of Europe's ski resorts hangs in the balance. There's a real fear global warming could bring parts of the Alps crashing down on villages below. Marcia Phillips regularly checks the avalanche fences on Mount Schafberg. They're meant to stop loose rocks tumbling down and flattening the village of Pontresina below. But much of Mount Schafberg is built from frozen soil and snow. And the mountain, like everything else in the Alps, is warming up. "We have to assume that the whole mountainside will come down", states climatologist Dr Marty. Ski resorts in the alps have been particularly hard hit by unusually warm winters. Banks already refuse to lend money to ski resorts at lower attitudes. As Dr Bruno Abegg states; "global warming is affecting us right now". Produced by SBS/Dateline Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

All of the world's top scientists agree that global warming IS happening, that HUMANS are responsible and that the effects will be DRASTIC by the end of the century. Who do you believe? A few unqualified conspiracy theorists? The media? Look it up: the Royal Society, the European Academy of Sciences, the United Nations, the American Academy of Sciences, all concur...

You cannot stop the inevitable.

5:21 So wtf! They should have given up and not held the race. "oh theirs climate change I can't move snow because the world produces too much CO2 and I have as a ski resort must adress this" What a fucking smug moron.

@thesparitan - the population is NOT declining, its the rate of population growth that is declining. put simply, next year there will be more people on earth than this year. And the year after that, still more people will be added to the total. When the population growth stops, there will be 10 bn people on earth, and there are 6 bn now. Also, the UK population is growing (projected to reach 80 million by 2100); so it is not just the US that is growing in the rich world.

'Svensmark' .. watch all 6 parts of this science documentary (may have to search for them), invest the 52 minutes in a little cosmic education. The geology and astronomy science come into the series gradually. I have watched it several times. Each viewing brings more clarity... tiny url com/c3pc9a.

Hehe, I like mother nature's tricks, and the way humans are trying to take control. Come on people. U cant see the real problem or u dont want to see it. I reckon u dont want to see it. There is only one way of reducing global worming and pollution. STOP MULTIPLYING!!!

about 5 years ago i lived in Bern and used to go every weekend to some ski resorts of "lower altitude" near Bern and after 2 ore 3 years the ski resorts were having less and less snow till one of them closed one entire winter because of lack of snow. This video reminds me of that. =(

Its no snow...even five years ago we had loads of snow in europe...but this "winter" we have only rain:S

A worldwide mandate needs to be passed to phase out fossil fuels, in say, 5-10 years. With hydrogen, bio-fuel, geo-thermal, solar, there is no reason to continue burning fossil fuels. When will people wake up and snap out of the spell the oil companies have cast? Or is it already too late? The time is ticking away and no one seems to be doing anything.

go ask the sun to stop going through solar cycles.
