Come explore this new and wonderful region of Europe with us- the Julian Alps in western Slovenia! “Where...” you may ask? Once part of Yugoslavia, Slovenia is just east and north of Italy (near Trieste), south of Austria and northwest of Croatia. This robust ride starts in tree-lined farmland, goes into a green river valley between breathtaking mountains, gradually gaining altitude to finally reach the lofty town of Log. “Log...” you may wonder? Yes, that’s correct and you will notice other towns in the Slavic language named Idrsko, Mlisnko, Vrsno and Krn. These villages are so cute, with their steep rooftops, onion-domed church towers and bright red flowers under the windows! Whitewater rafting, kayaking and mountain biking has really caught on here and you’ll pass various outfitters as you round the corners and overlook glistening turquoise mountain streams and a waterfall fed from the melted snows of the peaks above. Its a bit like Colorado in Europe with less tourists, but why take our word for it- come see for yourself. 74 minutes with plenty of hills and curves!
