Switzerland Cycle Tour 2013
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
A 10 day cycle tour of the Swiss Alps amongst spectacular scenery. Follow me on tough ascents up alpine passes and exhilarating descents. From Thun to Interlaken, Grindelwald and Meiringen, plus the Furka and Oberalp passes from Gletsch to Andermatt and to Chur and beyond. Fantastic riding.

I'm sure you did your brother proud :) Having just lost a friend to a tragic cycle accident, I feel your pain. What a beautiful way to honor someone's memory by heading out on the bike to finish his journey. Not long bought a touring bike, and now plotting my first tour in honor of my mate as well as all the other people who needlessly lose their lives doing what they love.

I'm in Wakefield, I cycle around pretty much everywhere. Years ago I cycled around the Netherlands, I love it in Europe they cater for cyclists within their infrastructure. Unfortunately I cant say the same for England, it is the car that is promoted above all else and cycling is definately fround upon by most people. Where is that bike shop you went to? I half expected you to wind up in Halfords lol

I have been knocked down 3 times now one of which was a hit and run. I have watched your film before but this second time I had tears in my eyes not just for the bit when you tell the story of your Tony and his bike, but for the whole film. Life is so precious and cycling on UK roads is SO SO DANGEROUS. There are so many aggressive and dangerous drivers with little fear of being caught and even less deterrent of a severe punishment. Too many cyclists have been killed. The courts are a joke. Since I was first knocked down in 1998 approximately 2,000 cyclists have been killed around 120 per year. Then there are those who are seriously injured with life changing injuries. This then dawns on you how dangerous it is to ride a bicycle on the roads in the UK. So seeing your film of your tour in Switzerland tells us it is not all bad, there are some safe and beautiful places to ride a bicycle where you will come home or reach your destination. I no longer ride on UK roads as I want to live life to a ripe old age. I don't want to be wiped out by some selfish nutter behind the wheel who couldn't give a crap about me or my family and would think nothing of driving over me because I was in their way and then lying through their teeth and perverting the course of justice in an attempt to get off the charge as what has happened to your Tony - RIP. Thanks for sharing.
Ps What was the name of the truck driver? I think I read details of the case at the time and it was shocking what he claimed happened. The driver is a piece of scum. -
Lovely Video and a lovely tribute to your brother. This video has helped inspire me to make a similar trip, so thank you. If you dont mind, I have 2 questions, if you have the time to answer them that would be great, firstly when you stayed at the campsites did you have to make reservations or could you just turn up and secondly what date did you do the 2 week trip. Thank you

Great video. I'd love to do this. I've a few trips around Ireland to get out of the way first :D

To all4bikes. I was only away on this trip for 2 weeks so I could afford it, staying in camp sites and preparing own food made it cheaper. For longer trips you simply have to save money and spend as little as possible. Buy your own food from supermarkets, camp wild for free, learn to stretch it out. Maybe go cycling in cheaper countries like in Asia, Switzerland is very expensive! Keep riding, you will do it one day.
