Stelvio Pass - the second highest paved mountain pass in the Alps (2770 m (9088 ft))

Our first day in the Swiss Alps had an amazing ending - we managed to see and cross the famous and amazingly beautiful Stelvio Pass. Stelvio is a mountain pass in northern Italy, at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level and it's the place where the Top Gear crew had a race a few years ago. Ever since I saw that show I wanted to see this place, I'm really happy I finally got to do it! The eastern ramp has about 48 hairpin turns. The road is amazing, but really narrow. Every time another vehicle passed us, my heart stopped a little! :) All things considered, I'm very happy we got to do this, but I'm even happier we recorded everything because I doubt I will ever want to do that again! :) BUT, if you do find yourself in the area you should definitely check the view from the top! It's spectacular!

You're right, Stelvio Pass is beautiful, though I agree with you that the road looks dangerous, especially for the roller-skiers and cyclists. I imagine this would not be a good car journey to attempt with an American (for example, my girl friend) who has only an ordinary driver's licence. Your driver has, I assume, a German driver's licence.
Thanks for the views!
