The Gamskogel is one of the highest peaks around Innsbruck, and although it's easy to hike (even for rookie hikers), it is quite the distance. One practically hikes / walks along the magnificent Kalkkögel mountain range, and after reaching it's end - past the Schlicker Seespitze (the highest peak of Kalkkögel - he's there. Well, at least that is what we thought too, but the never melting snow made us change our mind. Safety ALWAYS comes first with hiking, and there's been several occasion that even seasoned hikers overestimated their abilities. Therefore we went as high and deep as we could, and just called it the day. Thus the "Attempt" in the thumbnail title. The Kalkkögel are a mountain chain that is part of the Stubai Alps in Tyrol, Austria. The highest point of the Kalkkögel is the Schlicker Seespitze which reaches a height of 2,804 m (AA); its easternmost mountain is the Ampferstein. The Kalkkögel consist of Mesozoic sediments, like those that occur elsewhere in the Stubai Alps, west of the Wipptal valley, around the Serles crest or in the area of the Tribulaune. The Stubai Alps (in German Stubaier Alpen; in Italian Alpi dello Stubai) is a mountain range in the Central Eastern Alps of Europe. It is named after the Stubaital valley to its east. It is located southwest of Innsbruck, Austria, and several summits of the range form part of Austria's border with Italy.
