How did the Otago and Banks Peninsula volcanoes develop? I heard today there can be found the rest of old shield volcanoes, is that right?
And why are there no volcanoes in the South? (I mean it's a subduction zone, too.... )

im confused if all of nz was all underwater at some stage then how did we get animal life such as the tuatara and the moa etc just want to understand please someone explain for me thanks!
