Pen Review: Lamy Safari Dark Lilac Special Edition

KDP reviews the Lamy Safari Dark Lilac special edition. This is a no-frills, steel-nibbed, plastic-body fountain pen with an oversized body / clip, an unusually-shaped section, a piston-filled converter (included), and an ink window. I'm enjoying this pen as a bit of a novelty (with purple ink!), but I love the Safari line. Looking at getting this pen. If so it'll be my first fountain pen. Just nervous of potential leaking...

The facets themselves are not uncomfortable for me in Safari/AlStar/Vista/Joy, it's just that they make the section too narrow. Studio, which is about the same diameter but round, feels much more comfortable in my hand. Nexx, which has a rubber coating on the section, is also big enough, but it has 3 facets and the bottom corner tends to be a bit uncomfortable against the middle finger. The purpose of the facets is to teach school children to hold the pen in a correct way. They do still teach writing with fountain pens in the schools in Germany (big thumbs up for that), and that is why faceted sections are common in entry level pens. I find round sections more comfortable, but the facets do have a use too. They help keeping italic nibs precisely in correct angle.

As you know I'm not much of a pen guy... All my MB's have been gifts from customers or family members. I just wanted to stop by and give your vids a 👍

Funny how everyone has their nib preference. I can't stand Lamy nibs unless they are the Italics. I have an Italic nib on all three Lamys that I have. I like messing around with them on Rhodia paper while I am watching TV.

Are you sure you didn't buy the converter separately? I haven't seen a Safari come with anything other than a cartridge, at least in my case. The texture, which is also on the charcoal version, gives it a much nicer feel to me. And I really like the grip section, as it automatically orients the nib. I think they make a great starter pen, or for anyone else.

That Tudor is absolutely beautiful! I don't know much about pens, I just use a Parker Pen xD I'm going to start watching more of your pen videos, see if I can learn a thing or two :) Great video!

Those who don't like the Safary section are those who hold their pens in a totally unnatural way. The triangular shape of the Safari section is designed to provide a natural and comfortable hold.
That said, I could never stand Lamy's looks... Too teutonic! :D -
I have the Lamy Vista in extra fine and I use a four fingered grip and i find it super comfortable

Hey KDP :) nice pen!!! I like purple, lilac colour, its such a nice calour. I might consider a lammmy safari for my first fountain pen or so. I never had/used a fountain pen, I think. so I will get one eventually.
However I got interested/motivated on writing instruments recently and bought a pen, Now I have the Parker Sonnet :) rollerball pen! rollerball is so good, not ballpoint. Its matte black and golden colour (and some real gold plating or something like that on it). Its a pleasure to write with and very solid feeling.
