Obertauern is located in Austrian Alps with wide range of hotel selection, not so far from Salzburg and Munich. It is considered as one of the top Alps resorts (also expensive one). Location in the mountain col at the level of 1700m guarantees great snow conditions also during "warm" winters. It is considered as one of the top Alps resorts (also expensive one). I have visited Salzburg region in December 2014. Even if other nearby ski resorts: Ski Amade, Flachau or Wagrain were not fully operating because of lack of snow and low temperature, Obertauern was almost fully operational. Comparing: 80% of open lifts in Obertauern to 30%-40% running lifts in other resorts. Good snow conditions and a number of open lifts and slopes were main factors why I chose this resort for my skiing escapade. Skiers and snowboarders may have fun on around 100km dreamy pistes on the elevation ranging from 1630m to 2313m. This includes 85 different slopes and 28 lifts. Slopes are orchestrated subtly and connected to each other in the way that you can try all of them and always get back to your starting point. What is worth mentioning is that Obertauern is good place for doing snowkite. The resort even hosted the Snowkite World Championship in 2005. There is also possibility for night skiing in selected days.
