Monte Baldo is a mountain in the Italian Alps, located in the provinces of Trento and Verona. Its ridge spans mainly northeast-southwest, and is bounded from south by the highland ending at Caprino Veronese, from west by Lake Garda, from north by the valley joining Rovereto to Nago-Torbole and, from east, the Val d'Adige.The name derives from the German Wald ("forest"); it appears for the first time in a German map in 1163.The summit is reachable through a cable car from the nearby town of Malcesine, lying on the Lake Garda.Mount Baldo is characterized by a geographical identity, a ridge parallel to Lake Garda, which stretches for 40 km, between the lake to the west and Val d'Adige to the east, and on the south it is bounded by plain Caprino and North Valley Loppio.Mount Baldo reaches its maximum elevation of 2,218 m with the Valdritta, and its minimum elevation of 65 m on Lake Garda. The cableway is not merely an attraction to bring in tourists with the aim of keeping the mountain economy alive, it is also a source of employment for specialist workers, and technical and administrative employees, all of whom are needed to operate the system, making it known throughout the world. Not only that, but the cableway is also the basis for the induced activity of specialist firms in the sector as well as for those who - directly or indirectly - work with the hotel and restaurant trade. The decision to renovate the system, which carried over 6 million passengers in the period 1962 to 2001, was followed by a lengthy and extremely carefully thought-out design stage, based on studies performed by the Faculty of Engineering from the University of Trento. The subsequent choices form the basis of the success that we can all see today. Il Monte Baldo è un massiccio montuoso compreso tra le province di Trento e Verona. La dorsale principale ha andamento nord est - sud ovest, ed ha come confini naturali, a sud la pianura che comincia a Caprino Veronese, a ovest il lago di Garda, a nord la valle che congiunge Rovereto a Nago-Torbole e ad est la Val d'Adige. Si estende nei territori dei comuni di San Zeno di Montagna, Ala, Avio, Caprino Veronese, Ferrara di Monte Baldo, Brentonico, Nago-Torbole, Malcesine e Brenzone.Il nome del monte Baldo, in epoca romana mons Polninus, deriva dal tedesco Wald, ovvero bosco, e questo toponimo compare per la prima volta in una cartina tedesca del 1163. La funivia Monte Baldo Malcesine sul Lago di Garda non costituisce solo un polo di attrazione turistica con l'obiettivo di tenere viva l'economia montana, ma è anche una fonte di lavoro per la manodopera specializzata e per gli impiegati tecnici ed amministrativi che fanno funzionare l'impianto e lo fanno conoscere a tutto il mondo, ma anche per l'indotto costituito dalle imprese specializzate del settore e per quanti, direttamente o indirettamente, incidono sull'attività ricettiva. Alla decisione di rinnovare l'impianto della Funiva Malcesine Monte Baldo, che dal 1962 al 2001 aveva trasportato oltre 6 milioni di passeggeri, ha fatto seguito una lunga ed accuratissima fase di progettazione svolta sulla base degli studi effettuati dalla Facoltà di Ingegneria dell'Università di Trento.
