Montblanc Meisterstück 146 Le Grand Review
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
In this video, I review the Montblanc 149's smaller cousin, the 146. I like this pen a lot, perhaps even more than the 149: it has a more "normal" size, and its nib is very smooth.

Baby's bottom on the 146?

Somehow, I'm glad that these MB pens don't have easily removable nibs. I wouldn't trust buying from the used market anymore. I think there would be situations where the original nib is replaced by a knock off (either because some damage happened to the nib or simply to sell the original nib unit as a spare one). And it would make it hard to figure that out from some crappy pictures. Now, if I see a piston filling mechanism, I'm pretty confident it's an original. I simply stay away from the Classique/145/147 models (unless they have a return window and stellar feedback record).
That being said, I am not very happy with the charges for MB services/repairs. They already charge the customers inflated figures when they sell the pen. I think a limited number (say 5) of services should be on them (their pens have serial numbers, so it would be easy to record the history of each pen). Oh, well... too bad I'm not an MB manager... -
The Mont Blanc reaches only 4810 not 8410 (see 3:27) meters.

hi thanks for the video.
wich pen do you like better the mb 146 or the visconti homo sapiens? -
Thank you very much for the usefull tips. It's my second MB pen now (144 & 146). The buy a pen for one dollar was also a cool tip. Got me 2 Jinhao's wich are amazingly cool for 1 dollar :-)

After the success of the meisterstuck 149 montblanc decided to make a smaller fountain pen and name it "the bigger one" (le grand) What a great sense of humor.

Hi from México City I have seen some of your videos, they are useful but a I have a question for you and i will appreciate if you help me...I have been thinking to buy a preowned 146 but How do I find the size if it does not have the label where indicates if it is EF,F,M or B Is there a specific place or number or characteristic in the Pen where i can see or identify that thing.... acording your videos where you write I would like to get a (M)point...Sorry about my spelling or grammar...thanks!

+Maxime Haspit As far as I know, the Traveller takes cartridges and the Legrand is piston-filled.
-
Do you know the differences between the 146 ( legrand ) and t he 147 ( legrand traveller )?
-
Thanks Stephen. I like my (ca 1990) 146 pretty well, but can't put it in my shirt pocket due to the flat threads on the barrel not threading into the cap securely. The flat threads make the pen quite nice to hold, but also relegate it to a carrying case or desk pen only. I plan to disassemble, clean and grease the piston assembly using the methods in your video on that - when I'm feeling brave enough. ; )

Why don't you get the diamond montblanc fountain pen?

obv, you could also just answer this comment ;-) -
Hello Stephen. Have you ever reviewed the Montblanc Boheme? Thanks, Marco
-
Sorry. Mistake! You've done it.
-
How about a shootout between THE pen and the 146?
-
MB 146 or Pelikan M800?

I really enjoy your youtube videos. I would like to collect the fountain pens for personal hobby and I would like to know if you can suggest where and how should I start. What models of Montblanc are worth collecting? Just high ends such as limited editions? Thank you.

Hi Stephen, I was thinking about purchasing a 146 but I was wondering what would happen if I let it sit for say, 2 years without writing with it. Obviously I would thoroughly flush it and clean it, but do you think that the piston will need lubing at the end of 2 idle years? What has been your experience with long-term piston-filler pen storage?

Hi Steven, need your advice, i'm working on a college assignment to create an Ad campaign for Mont Blanc. After testing some of the Meisterstuck Le Grande range pens, the lady advised me that the EF, F, M sized pen suited my hand and writing style. My question to you is...based on your experience, Is it true that you have to be selective when choosing a Mont Blanc pen to purchase as not all pens work well with everyone in terms of size / nib or do most people buy it based on its style and looks?
