Montblanc 220 Oblique Broad Review
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
In this video I review a vintage Montblanc 220 with an oblique broad nib that I recently got at a pen show. I really like this pen: a beautiful anthracite colour, a great, flexy nib, and a very decent ink capacity!

Fantastic Video & Lovely Pen Stephen. Very Cool to see such a nice Vintage Montblanc Pen. Keep up the great work. Nick.

Hi Stephen,
Do you perhaps know how to take the nib out? I just puchased a 221 and the nib is a bit too wide.
Thank you :) -
I collect pens, and focus on vintage pens that I use on a daily basis (so I dont go for the really high end pens). I find some of the older nibs far better than the ones available today (MB 149 broad flex nib 1955, MB 34-2G super flex fine nib mid '50's, Parker 51 early 50's, Parker 5 Vacumatic late 40's and some others, all of which are SUPERB writers. I just ordered a MB220, can wait to get it...

I'm actually awaiting my Montblanc 220 right now, should arrive anytime now.
Been longing for one for ages, pretty much since i bought my first FP (A Lamy Safari back a few years ago) and just about a month ago i found a MB 320 for a good price and bought it.
Just a few days after recieving the 320, I found a 220 for pretty much the same price and i just had to buy it right away.
I really appreciate your reviews, you seem a bit more down to earth than a bunch of other pen-reviewers here on youtube, i find it very refreshing.
Best regards,
C. -
The 22x series is so neat to photograph. (my 225 with fine nib [though writes more like an extra fine]) http://static.karlblessing.com/pens/montblanc225/1.jpg

PS: If it's left oblique I think you have to turn the writing angle of the pen towards the side that's been cut down for the best line variation. ... I think.
-
Hrm, I'm going to be re-watching this video once my MB 225 arrives in the mail (far as I can tell, it's a Piston filler, appears to be more of a smoother plastic version of the 220, but not sure what else).
-
How about a shootout between MB 220 and MB 22? Also "how do you like me now?" I am I nterested in your current impressions as I am considering chasing a MB 22 or 220 at an upcoming pen show in my area--even if you don't have time for "how do you like me now?" videos.

That pen looks rather slim. You didn't find it to be uncomfortable at all?
-
Thanks man!! i'll keep searching

Hi stephen, nice review!! I've been searching for a review of the "tribute to the mont blanc" meisterstuck, would you have any idea or page were i could find one? I just haven't find any good review. Thanks!!
-
It's fairly obvious whenever you review a pen that you really like. You seemed to be almost reverent of the pen during the video. If anything, your expression and tone of voice were huge giveaways. Reminds me of the feeling I had when I started writing with fountain pens, haha. Hoping to come across a 220 someday!
-
I believe the material is just an average "felt"
-
sir again its me are you on face book if you are then I can show you my pen so that you can tell me that the pen is oblique or any other fountain pen
-
Oblique nibs don't have to be sharp, that would be an oblique italic.
-
Looks like a Lamy Studio!
-
interesting... i want an italix parsons essential. and one of those nibs offered are oblique medium. still not convince but i think i still might get an oblique nib, just because i have no oblique nibs as yet. i am agree that a pen is to write with it. but also agree that old pens can be great... parker 51 is an amazing pen.. but there are so many.

You said you wrote 22 pages with this pen: how do you stop your hand and wrist from cramping? Is there a particular way you hold the pen?
-
This pen reminds me a lot of the Lamy 2000, especially texture-wise. It's a nice-looking pen! With inlaid nibs, do you ever have issues of nib creep from under/around the nib (from wet inks)?
-
What ink is that? Look nice
