Montblanc 149 issues
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
I got this Montblanc 149 (Medium, 14k nib) used. It is in very nice condition, and I am pleased with it, save for the most important aspect: its performance. When compared to my other fountain pens - Pelikan M200 and Sailor 1911 - the 149 is completely out shined in terms of smoothness, continuous ink flow, and the required writing pressure. I am wondering what I can do to fix this issue, as the pen is, for the most part, extremely attractive. Apologies for the poor video/writing/lighting quality!

The nib meister re-grounded the nib, polished it, and increased the ink flow...unfortunately, now it writes like a flooded broad nib :-/ I seem cursed when it comes to Montblanc.

What was the problem? I'm guessing it was a clogged feed. I've bought two meisterstucks off eBay. A 144 that was totally mint and had never been inked. It worked perfectly straight away. The 146 oblique medium I bought had some issues. I took it to a boutique and they overhauled it and only charged me 60 bucks. Brilliant!

I got it off of ebay at about half its original price. Luckily, I got it working good though!

Thanks! I'm going to stop into a montblanc boutique tomorrow and see what they can do.

I bought mine used and it was apparent that it was marked up. But the pen worked beautifully. Send it to a nib meister.
