Mont Blanc 149 Review
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
In this video I review the flagship pen of the Mont Blanc line. It is a big, expensive pen, and I try to figure out if it is worth the hype and cost.

It's PIX not TIX its from one of the original collection called "pix" it's just to show heritage also the 3 rings on the cap is to represent the 3 founding fathers of the company. As far as the mountain thats in France and its 4810 Meters, as for the pice you have to take into account that the nib is solid 18k gold and made by hand with other 100 different steps not to mention the other hand finished components.

This was a very well balanced review. It was one of the best that I have seen for this pen. Thank you for making and posting it. Have you thought about reviewing any of the smaller pens made by Mont Blanc, as you wold be getting a quality nib in a more useable pen? You mentioned the 146, but how about the Meisterstuck Classique? One thing that I do admire about the brand is that they still offer a very good choice of nibs (ranging from EF to OBB) on all of the pens. Pelikan used to, but I believe that they no longer do so.

I don't think Mont Blanc mountain is in Germany... Nice review tho

You should come out to the Toronto Pen Posse or pens and pints sometime

The MB149 is not high on my list at retail, though there are plenty of pre-owned pens available at significant discount. I was graciously gifted a MB 146 (ca 1990) which I'd not have bought at this stage in my pen collecting, but that I dearly love. Many have experienced problems with the MB nibs as from the factory, but I'm told that mine with a medium nib was as flawlessly smooth, soft and ready a writer (even after long periods of disuse) "straight out of the box" as it has proved to be for me. Occasionally the blind pig finds an ear of corn.
I have Chinese Jinhao 159, brass bodied "tribute" pens that I've enjoyed (with some nib tuning or my recommended swap with #6 steel JoWo nibs) giving some of what I expect the MB 149 experience to be. Even with somewhat smaller hands than yours Jeffry and the additional weight, I don't find them uncomfortable for relatively short writing sessions.
My local pen shop carries the MB line, so I will request a demo of the 149 and see how it compares to the 146 and the 159,
My apologies for this long comment Jeffry, but you touched on a brand that garners much attention and my experience with one MB pen has been exemplary. I find your reviews most astute and informative. Thank you. -
I agree on the cost of this pen. I recently completed saving for a Nakaya (which is cheaper than the pen you reviewed) and could not bring myself to pay for it. It's just too expensive: I don't think I get value for money. I spend way too much on pens and inks, but I have a line that I just can't cross.

Great Review!
Your video is really informative. You catch even the smallest details, and I appreciate that.
