Mer de glace Chamonix, mont blanc, guide, glacier, sommet et montagne alpes francaise, save the planet. - Curtis Pitts began the design of a single-seat aerobatic biplane in 1943--1944.[3] The design has been refined continuously since the prototype's first flight in September 1944, however, the current Pitts Specials still remain quite close to the original in concept and in design. Pitts also built several monoplane racing planes in the 1940s--1950s, the most famous of which was the low-winged "Pellet" of 1947 and the mid-winged "Lil' Monster" of 1951.[5] Among other one-off projects, he also built a two-seat sport monoplane called the "Big Hickey". Several of the aircraft that Curtis Pitts built had a picture of a skunk on them and were called "Stinkers". After she bought it, aerobatic performer Betty Skelton called the second aircraft that Curtis built, "Lil' Stinker". The prototype S-2, which was the first two-seat Pitts, was "Big Stinker", the prototype Model 11 (later called S1-11B) was "Super Stinker", and the prototype Model 12 was the "Macho Stinker". In 1962 Curtis Pitts set up Pitts Enterprises to sell plans of the S-1C to homebuilders - La Vallée Blanche est un terrain d'aventure qui reste accessible, si les conditions sont bonnes, à la plupart des skieurs moyens. C'est le glacier le plus grand de France ( 7 km de long et 200 m d'épaisseur). La Mer de Glace est le deuxième plus important glacier des Alpes, après le glacier d'Aletsch. En longueur, il est toutefois devancé, outre le glacier d'Aletsch, par le glacier de Fiesch situé en Suisse. Son sommet culmine vers 2 140 mètres, au niveau de la jonction entre le glacier du Tacul et le glacier de Leschaux (le glacier de Talèfre rejoint celui de Leschaux peu avant). Sa langue terminale se trouve à une altitude de 1 400 mètres. Le site du Montenvers, situé un peu en amont de la langue terminale du glacier, offre un excellent point de vue sur la Mer de Glace. Le Montenvers est également connu pour sa célèbre grotte de glace, creusée chaque année dans le flanc du glacier depuis 1946.
