Ink Review: MontBlanc Mystery Black Ink
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
Here I review an ink by MontBlanc, their Black Ink, by the title of "Mystery Black" (a very decent Black Ink, with a slightly wet flow). Here-in may be found my own thoughts and opinions on the matter, as well as some test results I have for (among other factors) water-resistance on Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Copier Paper, Mead Notebook Paper, Tomoe River Paper, and Moleskine papers, and using a Retro '51 Rornado with a Fine nib, and a Hero 616 with a wet & broadened nib as pens for these tests/experiments.

Thank you very much for a great review of this ink. I bought this same ink close to 30 yrs ago to go with my husband's Mont Blanc pen and I really had no idea how it would "behave". Thanks again!

I think the best way to describe this ink is that it's so purple it's black. I was always "mystified" by why this ink looked different to my other black inks too when I wrote, and I came to the conclusion it was actually a very very very dark purple that becomes black

vitta, any are there any other blacks that have worse water resistence and is a cheaper brand? i do water color washes so i neded inks that wash away with water to get gradient effects, and i'm looking for a good black. suggestions would be appreciated

I love the older MB-bottles. I own 2 which I bought without ink in a bazar in Damascus. I filled them up with some ink to put it on my desk.
