Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
This is an amazing story of how several rugby players from Uruguay survive a plane crash in the Andies Mountains. In an incredible showing of will, stregnth and courage 16 of the people from the plane U-571 wreckage survive an amazing 72 days in the harsh elements. All 16 survivors and a few mountaineer experts are interviewed in this incredible documentary. Unfortunatly since its original airing in 2010, 15 of the 16 are still alive today. Only Javier Methol has passed away.

They had to wait until the end of Winter, because the snow was too deep to walk on -:)

moral of the story is never lose hope

for those with negative commentaries, it is ease to criticize in a comfortable situation, but going under that horror, they would shovel that criticism,( pardon my remarks)

The end almost made me 😭

I explode with emotions every time I hear this absoutly astonishing story! I want to walk the same path as they did and feel their strength that got them through this place where they all shared on the edge of life and death for 72 days! I beleive there are times when we are all tested in life and these 16 survivors we put through the most unimaginable test that we can only imagine! I wish only the best in life for these men!

fuk that news reporter that ask the first question( what did you eat to servive?) what a coward to be so heartless to not even say everyone is so amazed and happy your ALIVE!

Susan Marano I agree with u exactly, my whole life has been hard work and struggle! in 46 and I still work hard and struggle alot sometimes, but when I see this story and think of what these people had to endure for 72 days, I feel like .y struggles in life are bleek and nothing compared to what they had to go through mental and physical endurance! this is truly the most amazing story I've ever heard of and people need to know how hard life can really be!

In a situation like that. Cannibalism is not a sin. The bodies are dead and rotting anyway so if it can keep you alive a little longer. You have to do what you have to do.
I would tell my friends
"if I die before you, I insist you use me as subsistence in any way you can" -
This is likely the seventh or eighth documentary I've seen on this story plus having read Piers Paul Reid's book back in the late 70s, and I can say without a doubt the story still gives me goosebumps. I love listening to both Nando and Roberto recount their journey toward freedom. It is not a story of simple cannibalism, that's too base a thing to reduce this story down to, but this is a story of survival, resilience, choice, daring and sheer moxie as any story I've ever read or heard of. Seeing the faces of Nando, Roberto, Carlitos, Eduardo are like friends to me. And I listen to their story again as a friend from Canada as if I've heard it for the first time, but know there are 29 souls who are no longer on this earth whose faces will never be seen again. I think that is the actual message this story should be about. Making sure we remember the faces of the people who we love and care about because we may not see them again. Thank you Nando, Roberto, Eduardo, Carlitos, Jose , Alfredo, Roy, Coche, Alvaro, Javier, Carlos, Ramon, Adolfo, Antonio, and Gustavo for your story. And to those who gave them the chance to live, you are remembered and treasured. Thank you to the uploader for this program. It's one I hadn't seen before and am so glad to finally seen it.

After reading more about this amazing story including the spanish which Im able to read, I have to say Im pissed off that the guys didnt mention that they argued with the pilot who knew it was dangerous to fly in that weather. They let it seem like he didnt know what he was doing and it was more or less his error. He actually told them that their families would be hearing of 45 people mising over the Andes if they go flying right away which it exactly what happened. He was forced by circumstances to go flying, the pilot's family was very unhappy with the outcome and seeing how this story was milked to death and the survivors were on every show possible, I can see that the story brought alot of
money. It doesnt take away from their incredible will to survive but I feel that this tragedy was exploited for personal benefits and they didnt tell the whole truth. -
wow. that was breath taking. really...
-
they didn't cook it? EEEW. even on the Donner party they cooked the meat first.

-
Unbeliveble!
-
Why didn't they climb earlier:) they would've done that before having to eat their friends. I'm not judging, I'm just wondering what made them stay that long I wouldn't stay hoping for 2 months!

Adam Young sent me here. Check out his score.

Worst part about cannibalism must be the awkward conversation with the victim's family when you return ...

Its not about religion or what meat it is, meat is protein that they needed to get home to their families and LIVE. The title is ALIVE and these men done what they had to to remain so. Yes, its a hard situation to imagine - But its not about heaven and hell its about hope and living - That's what made them live and they were practical enough to stay alive and do what was needed to do. I am one who believes that okay, it would be difficult to do, but to stay alive for my loved ones?. I'd do it without hesitation and p.s the bible also says do not judge or you will be judged and for the same way you judge others you will be judged and with the measure you use it will be measured to you - So unless you're in that situation do not judge
