Hunting gear - mounting a rifle scope with Randy Newberg. Two great pieces to my success are my rifle and scope. In this video I give an overview on the steps I take to mount my Leupold scopes on my Howa Alpine Mountain rifles. I suggest everyone learn to mount their own scopes. It will give you a better understanding of the important physics that result in accuracy issues stemming from scopes mounting. Improper or poor scope mounting results in poor accuracy, a problem often blamed on the scope, the rifle, the ammo, or the shooter; a problem that is very preventable. I've mounted 150+ Leupold scope and use the same equipment. Difference is I use a cordless drill now when lapping.

Before buying that mounting kit at Amazon, be sure to read the one-star rating comments on Amazon. After reading those, not likely I'd buy the kit.

Holy cow, this is a great video. Going to get my license soon ( in australia) and thought putting on a scope was as simple as mounting it and then just going to the range, shoot a few times and adjust that way.

Really like the part about leveling the scope; useful info there Randy! FYI, for those that don't have a boresight (like me), I recently put scopes on two of my rifles and just sighted them at the range by looking down the barrel (bolt removed)at a target 50 yds downrange, and adjusted the scope accordingly before ever firing a shot. Both rifles were on paper and pretty near center in one shot. Of course this only works with bolt actions! :) P.S. I ended up getting the Leupold VX-3i for my 338 win mag with the help of your recommendation and couldn't be happier.
