How To Decide Between The JLC Master Control And The Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie | #ASKTNH 80
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
EDITOR'S NOTE: Hey guys, there was some miscommunication about the version of the Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie - the CORRECT version is the Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Ultra Slim. (http://www.montblanc.com/en-us/collection/watches/montblanc-heritage-chronometrie-collection/112515-montblanc-heritage-chronometrie-ultra-slim.html) “In the clash of the two watches, know yourself - know what you want to purchase. If it’s a genuinely forward thinking movement and you want to devote that kind of money to it - go JLC. But if you really just want a dress watch, you think it would fit at the office or in a sweater, whatever it is, the Montblanc is the watch for you.” The Jaeger LeCoultre Master Control and the Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Automatic are two great examples of pure, simple, classic dress watches. Today we’ll get down and dirty in the technical specs, design comparison, price, for your consideration as you (maybe some day) have to make the choice. Let us know what you think, geeks! Great video and I could not have seen it at a better time. I am making this same decison myself.
Just getting into serious watches and I fell in love with JLC. It is expensive for my current budget and my local AD showed me the Montblanc as a potential alternative.
I decided to pull the trigger on the Montblanc and your video confirmed what I had thought: JLC amazing, Montblanc amazing at a more afordable pricepoint.
Keep up the great work! -
Great video. Personally looking at the master control vs. JLC master moon phase. Thoughts on moon phase? Also prices on some online grey markets are 20-30% cheaper than AD....worth it?

Hello Christian, with the movement you are a little bit misinformed here.
First is, the decoration on that master control is no where near "very well". There are just some very simple finishes that you can even find on a frederique constant.
Second, this particular Montblanc doesn't have in house movement. It uses a modified SW300 movement. In fact, Montblanc doesn't use any in house movement in their uncomplicated watches.
Cheers -
Your videos are too long perhaps

That do you think of the Monte blanc Star?
-
I strongly disagree on the minute track on the Mont Blanc vs the JLC. I also prefer the Dauphine hands on hte JLC.
-
Montblanc will at some point produce 100% in house in all of their watches. And when that happens they will move over to being a major player.
-
I don't care that Montblanc is originally a pen brand because considering how new they are as a watch brand, they've come a long way and I feel they are underrated in terms of aesthetics and quality. I feel they are actually worth their price and you're getting something owned by the Richemont group at a great price point. I think they make a great watch for the fashion conscious horology fan looking for non ostentatious elegance. I'm buying a star classique for my first watch. Great discussion and great points made!

Not a difficult decision at all - I took the vintage Zenith!!!!!! But beside that, I'd take the JLC without a seconds hesitation. JLC have won my loyalty with both their insane quality (have you held and looked at their watches?!?!) and also their customer service. I went to their booth at an exhibition in Manhattan in 2013 and they sent me not only their catalogues in the mail every year since (they're worth $30 each on eBay?!) but also a handwritten letter inviting me to their new boutique and a dinner with their North American Director (Sadly as I live in Australia I couldn't go!). But the effort of writing a hand written letter has won JLC my loyalty for life.

The jlc would be perfect with no date. I usualy dont care for montblanc, but they did good here imo
-
That zenith is a beauty. May I ask how much you got it for?

Great vid I'm the guy that bought the JLC from the charity store for £1.50 could you let me know what you think of it pics on the urban gentry
Facebook cheers steve -
Great video, Christian.
Welt put points. I really enjoy my Master Control Réserve de Marche 37mm.
I really like this length of video better than the 5 minute ones. And I'm it alone.. ;-)
Cheers from Germany

Based solely on ascetics the Montblanc wins.

Love your channel, it's a great pleasure to listen to you, keep up the great work sir !

JLC all the way!

I have some JLC reversos, you made me feel good about them, I like the detail, which is often lost in photos. You have shone an interesting light on the Montblanc heritage.
-
Christian please slow down when you talk, you are exacerbating my ADHD here...
But I agree with your viewpoint that even though we WIS's sometimes give Montblanc flak for being the Richemont cash cow, their products gives consumers a good start in at least a quality automatic swiss product at a fraction of the price. You are ultimately right that not everyone will graduate to a $7000 Rolex or $20k Patek, but even if they dont, their $1500 Montblanc will look nearly as good and can continue to serve them reasonably well in 10 years time. We in our community sometimes forgets that 95% of the people are not remotely interested. -
Awesome episode! Thank you! Two thumbs up. Personally I would rather buy an Oris or a (Grand) Seiko automatic dress watch than a Montblanc. Further I loved how you used the context of a gold Submariner as an example. Personally the reason why I would never buy ANY Rolex is because its popularity with non-watch-guys, posers, wannabees, wiseguys, pimps and pikeys. I personally much rather would have a every day Sinn and a dressy JLC indeed. But that is just my personal opinion.
Anyway, keep up the awesome vids and kind regards from Amsterdam
