Hillwalking Safety Scotland - Advice, Ramble or Rant?
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
After a few of my latest trips out over the winter in Scotland I decided to talk about hillwalking safety in Scotland when up in the mountains. It is just a short and dirty look at what I take with me and why. Think I just had an urge to make the film due to what happened when I was out at the Cairngorms in my other film and also from past personal experience. The film may come across as a bit negative but just a few things on my mind that I felt that I needed to get off my chest and may be of help to others. I enjoy getting out into the great outdoors as often as I possibly the same as everybody else with a passion for the outdoors. So this video is not trying to tell anybody what to do or not to do. I class my self as competent and by no means am I an expert, just purely my personal thoughts, ramble or rant on the subject that afternoon. At the end of the day we are all responsible for our own decisions and choices. Meant to add the following items in film that I take. Head torch with spare batteries especially in winter with shorter days in case I need to walk down or out from somewhere late in the day. Basic first aid kit. I take a compression bandage, plasters, adhesive butterfly sutures, some KT type sprain tape, compeed blister plasters and ibubrofen for the day after at a bothy or to ease muscle aches. Hi Ray, been watching some more of your videos this evening - really enjoying all the hard work you put into them...and the humour too - 'my bum was knitting socks' was a great expression to teach my students ;-) Good and sound advice, even 'experts' need to be reminded sometimes.

Good advice. Tfs

Some very good sound advice - thanks for sharing.
I've just downloaded View Ranger and it seems complicated to use to me - Are their and good videos out there to watch ?
Or perhaps you could do a demo for us 😬👍

Yep. Totally agree with this. Great advice. I always go the extra mile (pardon the pun) before I set off. Maps. Videos weather etc. I use the viewranger app too. They're spot on Good video. Well said.
Ps. I'd camp in that place your sat 😆 -
Some sound advice, especially about knowing your limitations and not being afraid to turn back. How are those newly knitted socks? 😂

It looks like summer there now! We got some surprise snow the other day.

Bloody oath mate.
Always prepare for the worse. -
Always a great reminder. Even experienced people get into trouble. Over here we have had Mountain Rescue out every weekend finding people that were lost or hurt, and most were not prepared.

Good thoughtful safety video RS.There are some who do underestimate the elements & do go into remote areas unprepared. All experience passed on is fantastic.Good stuff buddy.
