A good fun ride following Karl on his new 2011 Speed Triple in the Italian twisties. Some mixed surfaces in the dry in the middle of a 9 day trip in The Alps. I want to go back! Find this road in Google Maps searching for "SS52, Forni di Sopra, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy"

Many thanks. All I wanted to do at the time was go back and do it again. I could have spent the whole 10 days just doing that!

A "fun ride" can be had also by not braking every rule in the book. Your riding style would be much more appropriate in a racing circuit; definitely NOT on a public road and your hands would be much better off holding the handlebar, rather than gesticulating "OK" and thumb up signs to yourself in the mirror. Your riding is highly inappropriate and I think that to display that sort of riding style you should go to a racetrack where you can't hurt anyone.

R 1200 GS king of touring motorcycles!

This is just magic. Whats the best way for me to do this coming from Australia? I mean who is the best company to hire a bike from in Italy?
-
aaah oke! that clears it all! i love to own a GS ones! The KTM 990 is a sick bike hope to see some footage of you on it later ! ride on!

Hi. I've had 6 great years on GS's covering 50K fun miles (no commuting or work) and at some point I'll go back to them, but I just wanted something with a little more sparkle for a while. In reality there's very little between them in the twisties BUT the KTM smacks a great big grin across your face every ride. Feels more like the kicks I got when I was 18. BMW is more polished and I have yet to test what the KTM is like on a 3K mile tour of the Alps - time will tell. New baby is 990 SMT ;-)

hey why did you buy a ktm instead of the bmw? and what model did you get yourself?
-
Man, I could watch that for hours.

@biziomd11 Hey. You live in a great part of the world, and my Ducati owning friends will be very jealous ;-). Have been to Italy maybe 5 or 6 times and apart from skiing there with the school once everyone otehr time has been by bike. Only really in the north and around the lakes otehrwise distance starts clocking up. Very beautiful area. Thanks for the offer to see some loacal roads. May well take you up on that kind offer some time :-). Cheers, Darren

@MrEunuch I rode to UK in 2008, visited Wales and Scotland and London to see friends, unfortunately only passed quickly through the south, will come again. I live in Rome but work west of Milan towards the lakes, and when i'm up there for work I stay just south of Simplon Pass near Domodossola. I try to take advantage of any spare time by riding around discovering new roads, and there are plenty! Should you plan a visit around here, definitely give me a shout, will show you around.

@biziomd11 Hampshire on the south coast. Getting over to France is pretty painless so better roads (not too bad here, just poor surface and not a lot of hills/mountains unless you go to Wales or Scotland) and the mountains not too far away. Whereabouts are you?
-
@MrEunuch :-) oh no, just a clever use of the pause button... I actually don't know the northneastern portion, but i have always heard rage reports and now your videos, will definitely have to plan a ride there sometimes next spring or summer. What part of the UK are you from?
