Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
In this long-awaited Shootout, I compare Montblanc's two bigshots: the Meisterstück 146 and the Meisterstück 149. I hope this is useful!

Losing this horrible initial song is a big win for the vdeos. Congrats.

I just found your informative video which I found very interesting. I received a Mont Blanc 149 pen as a graduation present in 1975. I would like to have it cleaned and refurbished but do not know the procedure. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What nib are your 146 & 149? F nib? M?
-
By the way, the #6 nib is available in 18K/750. I have a 146 with an 18K nib. For me, though, MB is definitely less desirable than either my Pelikan M1000 of my M805. They cannot be beat (for me)...

LOL, you said Nibige. That's funny.!!
Just received my 146 in the mail today that I bought from a seller on eBay. Love it, Love it, Love it.
Great job on your videos. I enjoy watching them... -
You have montblanc it is too expensive
-
146 is the best.
-
Go with a Bic. It gets the job done and you can get on for $2
-
Beautiful handwriting... Any idea why the 149 skipped so bad on the first stroke?
-
do you have a review on the MB Clasic Fountain pen?
-
I could be wrong but isn't a piston filler fake very rare seeing that a piston fill system is too difficult to replicate? I think I've read it on the fountainpennetwork, so taking that into account a piston filler is your safest option. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though

my mistake, I bought my Cross pen in 2000, not 2010. I was making 4.4 Irish pound per hour that time and that pen cost me 150 Irish pound. now I am living in USA and still in poverty, so my third fountain pen budget is no more than $250.
-
oh, thank you very much for your reply, that is very important information. I am considering buying my third fountain pen in my life, my first pen is a Cross pen F nib that I bought in Ireland in 2010, I forgot the model name, it looks like a Cross Century II, but I am not very sure. My second pen is a Lamy 2000 EF nib. I want to buy a Japanese M or B nib pen, Sailor Professional Gear, Sailor 1911 Large (or standard) and Pilot Custom 823, which one is better,or do you have any other suggestions?

I think the problem of Montblanc pen is that when you write with more pressure, the blue ink turns into dark blue, with less pressure, it turns into light blue, as you can see in your own video, there are three colors (dark blue, blue, light blue) within one word, it does not look very good. Cross pen has the same problem, even you use black ink, when you put less pressure, the ink color turns into gray, it really bothers me a lot.

HI thanks for all your videos...I just discovered your channel and am loosing my sleep watching you every night...just a question, about Montblanc...how or where did you manage to find them pre-owned? and obviously in good conditions and with a reasonable insurance about being original? sorry for that and thanks!
-
Hi Mr. Brown. Do you remember what ink you used on the 149? It looks so fabulous!
-
I'm waiting for the 146 which shipped from France........
-
Best line: "the girth is very impressive...I can't believe I just said that".
-
How recognize a "real" Montblanc against a "fake" one?
-
I forgot to say despite the stiffness it's an amazing nib, like writing on ice, so smooth. You may pay extra for brand but buying a used 146 or 149 at ~$400 is a great buy imo, they are definitely worth it. I'd never buy another new one though, they depreciate as fast as a luxury car. My daily driver has always been a Mercedes but I never buy new... should've taken the same route with pens but oh well... I love it and will definitely use it to my heart's content forever
