Fly Fishing New Zealand Alpine Solo
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
Surrounded by towering snow capped alpine peaks I trek head on into a maelstrom in search of giant South Island Brown Trout. But the freezing snow fed rivers, driving rain, and severe gales do their best to send me packing. Will the river gods show favour to the brave or will I die of hypothermia alone in the mountains and go home empty handed? Join angler Colby for a light hearted fly fishing adventure in Wild New Zealand.

Looks like you just beat that storm that was boiling up behind you. One of the best days I had in recent memory was on still water in a dense fog with air temp of 0C stripping leech patterns on a sinking tip line for good size rainbows. I really dislike wind especially when it's blowing over your right shoulder and you can't reposition. Scenery in the video was awesome!

Hi Colby, were you up the back of the Rakia or the Rangitata?

Haha I had a suspicion about the first song but when the second one started I knew. Awesome choice of tunes mate! Star Wars is the best

80km and hour winds! No thanks! Your fly line would never touch the water!

Hi Colby, nice work in tough conditions. This was a good bit of filming, the weather made for an interesting story. Loved the music as well. Cheers Craig
