Peter Saunders and his son Charlie took the chair lift to the foot of Bossons Glacier, at an elevation of almost 1,400 meters. They then attempted to traverse an area of the trail known as La Jonction, which was covered in fresh snow over the weekend. Somewhere on La Jonction, Charlie Saunders slipped and fell. His father called emergency services for help, but their call was cut out before they got his location. Rescue workers say that neither Peter nor Charlie Saunders were wearing appropriate equipment for hiking in such severe conditions, and it is believed that Peter also fell and died while attempting to reach Charlie. Investigators believe that after leaving the trail, Peter fell 200 meters while his son appeared to have fallen 300 meters.
