British boy, 7, dies on family skiing holiday in French Alps after getting lost on the piste, The boy got lost after wandering off the marked slopes and fell to his death after he asked his mother if he could ski on his own on final day of a family holiday. A skiing trip turned to tragedy for a British family when their seven-year-old son ventured off on his own on the last day of the holiday and fell 300 feet to his death from a cliff. The boy, who has not been named, was on Friday afternoon skiing on marked slopes at an altitude of 5,000 feet with his mother and brothers and sisters in the resort of Flaines in Haute-Savoie. “He asked his mother for permission to ski on his own for the final descent of the holiday,” said a rescue worker at the resort near Geneva that is popular with British holidaymakers. But he then somehow left the marked slopes and got lost.
