Australian Alps - Snow-capped
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
Although I have been travelling into and through the Snowy Mountains for several years I have never seen the snow-covered Alps from this vantage point on a crystal-clear day before the day I took these clips. The first is from the "Southern Cloud" memorial lookout near Tooma, New South Wales (see Google Map)........ http://g.co/maps/k3bcp .........and the second is from several kilometres outside of Khancoban, New South Wales (see Google Map)......... http://g.co/maps/qk2bk It was a beautiful morning - quite cold, an absolutely clear sky, no breeze and just the sound of the birds (and the engine of my truck!). I couldn't resist stopping and taking a few seconds of video footage. I mention in the commentary that the area covered by the Australian Alps is larger than that of Switzerland. Here's a YouTube link to a Film Australia documentary made in 1957......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utegBJHVYS4

Thanks for your feedback. :) I have several videos taken inside the various power stations that I will eventually edit and upload. It's a matter of finding the time to do it.

Yes, we are fortunate in that we have mountains just high enough to receive snow each year, enough to provide recreation in winter and snowmelt for the hydro-electricity & irrigation system in the spring/summer. Australia - the best of all worlds. :-)

I never knew Australia had snow covered mountains. I guess I never really thought about it. I would love to visit there someday.

@chkjns Thanks, Chuck. The music is "Happy Teddy", by Martin Boettcher - as presented right here on YT by our friend Socrates2007 on 29 Nov 2010. :) Cheers! Bruce
