Art Lessons for Kids: Chalk Pastel Mountains
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
This lesson is one of my favorites...reason being, it's just so clever!!! I can't take the creative credit for this one though. I stumbled across it on the web a while back and have included it in the "highly successful art lessons" pile. Most students can recreate this one with ease, so long as the steps are followed reasonably well. The 'M' template is the key step...if students are going to have trouble, this is where it will be. If necessary, you can premake the templates for them and just have the students add the colors and do the rubbing. I actually did this when I was in 5th grade or so... After creating the mountains, we took black ink and blew it across the page with a straw and attached pink tissue paper to make it look like cherry blossoms.
