I did this climb on oct 15 and it was glorious !
The beginning was much harder than the rest of it... I had ZERO traffic for my descent ...
My planned ride on the 14th was pouring rain, so I did the climb the next morning after we checked out of our fantastic B&B "21 bends" run by some UK folks -
how can a mere mortal do this in an hour? That's insanely fast! My PR is like 1 hour 11 minutes. Gotta do sone mkre training I guess :)
-
how many base km should you have under your belt to climb like this and how did the guys manage this with a 25-39 ratio?
-
Remarkably similar to Flagstaff Mtn in Boulder Colorado which is the toughest climb I've ever done. I rode it a 42x23 which was a granny gear in 1999.

What's the best gearing for this for an average rider? 12/28 - 11/32 or 34 ?? Curious 😀

hi,
did it this summer in 57'06 which is OK but not really fast ,but during the descent it cost me m'y front tire who melted on the side because of the braking. I changed it and the next day it occured again. -
Going to ride it in the weekend, let's see if I can beat Matt and Tom!

JUST DID THIS TODAY...TWICE! It was an EPIC CLIMB! :) Great video chaps, from one happy, and tired boy. Steak for supper...

You guys are fit

Weather changes a lot there in an hour?
-
For the 2014 TdF the riders did this climb twice!
-
Love this vid. Back in the days, drinking beet during the tour was normal, they said it made you faster lol.
-
I almost broke my wrist descending on a similar mountain road, in the rain. Front tire started wobbling, the bike drifted in the corner and....well yeah
-
Wow, the difference between Hinault's and LeMond's time of 48 minutes flat versus Pantani's 37 minutes. What an amazing jump in the quality (and training) of cyclists in those 11 years! lol ....
-
Most mere mortals could never do this in an hour - that's something like 4W/Kg for 60mins, definitely not what your average cyclist could manage! Took me 1hr 27 last summer. Got a benchmark to beat next time. Fantastic mountain though and a truly epic climb.
