Abandoned 1908 Hotel in the Italian Alps▭Sneaky Exploration▭Suspiria 2 - 2017 Film Set Location!!
Mountain | reviews | videos | photos
In hindsight it was fortuitous that they were getting ready to make a horror film here, (Suspiria 2 - 2017 Film Set Location!!) otherwise we might not have gained entry. I had heard that the resident caretaker was very diligent in keeping people out; And maybe that's why he was so angry when we finally crossed paths. I think it's a very good thing that they have a caretaker, and that he's serious about his job - It would be a crying shame to see this beautiful monument to the Art Nouveau age, be defaced or damaged by mindless vandals. And if he ever reads this...peace - there was no harm done - nothing destroyed, nothing taken (I just hope the film crew follow this maxim)...I didn't even leave footprints :) This majestic Art Nouveau hotel was built in the first decade of the 20th Century. The rich and famous flocked here, as the area was very popular with tourists at that time. In the late 40s a fire destroyed the upper storey (which I would've loved to have seen!) ...this was hastily replaced by a prefabricated structure. It flourished for the next 30 years or so; until in the late 1950s, it was then that the funicular railway that brought a lot of the guests up the mountain...closed. The hotel struggled on for another 10 years. It finally closed it doors in the late 1960s. In the years after it's closure, thieves got in and stole valuable antiques & furniture :( The property was eventually purchased by an entrepreneurial group, not for the purpose of re-opening it, but to 'sell' space on it's roof for commercial broadcasters to mount their antennas. And I found out this was the reason they have a guard...to protect not only the hotel...but mostly the antennas! There was no way I could film the entire hotel, I was indeed lucky to be able to film the parts I did. Once again apologies for the camera, there's no motion stabiliser, no zoom, no flashlight...no nuthin'...but it did the job. I hope you enjoy getting a glimpse of what very few get to see. What an amazing building, so pleased you managed to capture what you did. Much respect to you and people like you who explore these time capsules and leave them how you found them

This place is SPECTACULAR! I can't wait to see the movie. And yes when they grab a big place to do a movie, the clean and damage the parts they use. It's sometimes haunting to walk along as a movie is being filmed elsewhere in the building. :O
I hate to say it, but I fear the worst for the patina in the areas being shot! -
Thanks for letting us see this wonderful place x

This was a nice treasure .Glad you didn't get in really bad trouble. also Thank you for taking pictures of that old kitchen. I love seeing how Chefs and cooks prepare food. These souls of past kitchen work had done tense labor.More than I could imagine Thank you again

Amazing, I love it!
Thanks for going to so much trouble, I can see it was worth it.
You know, every speck of paint, every tile, all the wiring, & plumbing is made of the most toxic materials.
That lead paint, over 100 years later, still sticks to the walls like poope to ze blanket.
Todays paints peel away months after you leave the heat & a/c turned off & outside air entering the house. -
Amazing Footage! The slow dripping water, silence & semi- darkness really added to the eerie atmosphere! The old photos were very interesting, giving us a sense of how incredible the hotel once was.....
