More information about the video content bellow: 1. Switzerland is unique in having enough nuclear fallout shelters to accommodate its entire population, should they ever be needed. "Every inhabitant must have a protected place that can be reached quickly from his place of residence" and "apartment block owners are required to construct and fit out shelters in all new dwellings", according to articles 45 and 46 of the Swiss Federal Law on Civil Protection. In 2006, there were 300,000 shelters in Swiss dwellings, institutions and hospitals, as well as 5,100 public shelters, providing protection for a total of 8.6 million individuals – a coverage of 114 per cent. 2. Standing in the middle of Bern, Switzerland, is the Kindlifresser, or “Child Eater.” The fountain sculpture towers above the ground, a baby half stuffed into the giant's mouth, and a sack full of three alarmed tots slung over his shoulder presumably for later snacking. The unsettling sculpture is no modern work of art; built in 1546, it is one of the oldest fountains in the city of Bern. 3. There was a war in Switzerland in 1802 called Stecklikrieg that was fought out with wooden clubs because Napoleon took away their weapons. 4. Switzerland’s highest [Dufour Peak at 15,199 feet (4,633 m)] and lowest [Ascona at 643 feet (196 m)] points are only 43 miles (69 km) apart. Switzerland has more high mountain peaks than any other country in Europe with 48 about 13,120 feet (4,000 m). 5. The Swiss version of Santa Claus is usually accompanied by a strange-looking individual with a blacked-out face whose job it is to beat naughty children with sticks. The guy’s name is Schmutzli, which roughly translates to “Dirty.” 6. It is believed that the Swiss musical form of yodeling began during the early Stone Age and has a long tradition outside of Switzerland as well. In Switzerland, it is said to have developed from a form of long-distance communication and cow-calls. 7. Number one on any list of Bern Switzerland facts has to be that the city is nicknamed ‘the city of fountains’ because of the over one hundred fountains that dot the area. Eleven maintain their original statues and three remain from the 16th century—fountain spotting can certainly be a sightseeing experience all by itself.
