More information about the video content bellow: 1. Castle in a rock – Yes, there is a castle in a rock. Predjama Castle is one of the country’s most iconic scenes and it’s pretty impressive in person. First mentioned in 1274, the castle was built under a natural rocky arch in the stone wall to make access to it difficult. 2. Ljubljana translates as ‘the loved one’. The quiet capital city – For a capital city Ljubljana is extremely quiet and peaceful. There are hardly any crowds, and you don’t have to push your way onto a sweaty tube to get around. Ljubljana has been touted as the New Berlin, thanks to its flourishing urban scene and its dedication to the arts. 3. Over half the country is forest – 60% of Slovenia is covered in a blanket of lush green forest. I love that there’s so much nature. There are still hundreds of brown bears roaming the mountains in Slovenia. It kind of gives it an old, medieval feel, right? It also keeps you on your toes. 4. Just 15 kilometers shy of Slovenia's border with Austria, the Julian Alps and miles of forest halt abruptly for Lake Bled. This small alpine lake, overlooked by a towering Romanesque castle, is startling. Its most prominent building is the 17th-century Church of the Assumption, which is steeped in romantic tradition. According to regional lore, a happy marriage is assured to a husband who can carry his bride all 99 paces from the dock into the church. 5. In Ljubljana you can pay to stay in a prison cell, at a hostel called Celica. It is housed in the renovated building of a former prison. Hostel Celica in Ljubljana is rated among the most popular hostels in the world, therefore book your room long in advance. 6. The Slovene Riviera is the coastline of Slovenia, located on the Gulf of Trieste, by the Adriatic Sea. It is part of the Istrian peninsula and is 46.6 km long. The region comprises the towns of Koper and Piran, and the municipality of Izola. 7. The famous symbol of Ljubljana is the dragon. The history of the iconic monster dates back to tales of Jason and the Argonauts. It’s said that Jason sailed up the Danube, then the Sava and then the Ljubljanica before finally having make the journey to the Adriatic with their dismantled boat being dragged with them. On route they came across a lake that housed the Ljubljanan dragon. The gallant Jason is said to have fought bravely against the beast before finally slaying it. It has thus become a symbol the city.
